Maura and Tom Rakowski are the proud founders of Game On Kennel the home of their Champion German Wirehairs. Tom and Maura met about 10 years ago and since the beginning, have been very active in both upland bird hunting as well as Deer Hunting. When they first got married they owned Cocker Spaniels and wanted a larger dog for bigger game. They purchased a Llewellin Setter female, who unfortunately was gun shy from the start. After much searching for the perfect "NEW" breed to try, Maura chose the German Wirehaired Pointer. She absolutely loved their fuzzy faces and personality. Tom agreed. German Wirehairs were their breed of choice! After much decision, they decided to purchase not only one new pup, but 2 from Fancher Kennels. Little did they know that they were onto something really great. Gently persuaded by new "wirehair friend" and mentor, Paula Moebius Maura decided to give showing Coach (CH Fancher's Game Misconduct JH) a shot. The two had a great ride and learned alot about the breed and have met many new people along the show trail. Coach was soon followed by Noel and they both ended up finishing their Championships the same weekend back to back at the Wisconsin Specialty in '08! It was just about the same time that we got our 4th wire, Grissom and the showing thrill ride just keeps going! Gris finished his Championship at 8 months old with 4 majors. Go team Game On!
Maura comes from close to 15 years of experience as a veterinary technician. She has worked both in Emergency and Critical Care,Neurology, and Orthopedics. She has a vast knowledge of Canine Structure and Physiology. She has interest in reproductive medicine and genetics as well. Both Maura and Tom are active members of the GWPCA and GWPCI. Maura has participated in National Events. They also take part in both AKC Hunt Tests as well as NAVHDA. They believe, like many other Wire owners that "Life is definately too short to hunt with an ugly dog!"
